This weekend, after a good friend came over to pick up her newly adopted tin elephant (JT!), she so kindly sent over this picture to let us know that he was all-set; a-okay on the way to his new abode...
The most wonderful thing you've seen today, right? :)
Two more animals left the building yesterday evening, when I got an unexpected ring at the door from a woman who said she had arrived to pick up the paper-mache Giraffe and Zebra heads. Confused but trusting, I buzzed her up while calling Aviv just to make sure...
The only people I was expecting to see that evening were Aviv and my sister, Leila, who called me a half hour before I arrived home from work to let me know she was around the corner getting drinks with some friends. She said would come by afterwards to say hello.
So when the buzzer rang downstairs, I thought it was bizarre that she had finished so early. I spoke through to the downstairs intercom only to find that it wasn't her at all... I love life's little surprises, truly.
And when I opened the door, the young woman was there before me, standing with her little boy who must have been just three. He looked up at me and said something to the extent of: it's Leila's mom!
I found it strange, to say the least, as Leila is the name of my sister, the one I was waiting for.
The young mother told him, no honey—but she looks like her.
I asked who Leila was and she said it was their neighbor. I told her that Leila was also the name of my sister—how funny!
We smiled as her son did a quick run around the loft—took a look at Motti the turtle, and then they left, with the Zebra and Giraffe heads under the mother's arms.
But really...what are the odds?
They say synchronicity is a sign you're going the right way; and I love living in the world where that's true.
And through all of this, we still have a few animals left in this wonderful zoo: Motti the (live) water turtle and the Panda, as you all probably know. They are the two animal friends we'll have the most difficulty letting go...and who knows? Maybe we'll bring that zoo with us.
After all, this is Zoo York!
